Sunday, 20 September 2015, 2:00 pm local time. They have done it! They have reached the northernmost point of Europe, the North Cape. On their Cape to Cape 2.0 Tour the team headed by world record driver and adventurer Rainer Zietlow comfortably broke their own world record, set a year ago. With a stamp and the signing of the official world record documents by the mayor of the North Cape, Kristina Hansen, it is now official: the new world record time for the drive from the southernmost tip of Africa to the northernmost point of Norway is nine days, eight hours and four minutes. In this way Rainer Zietlow, Marius Biela and Sam Roach have also nailed the goal they set themselves of driving the distance in less than ten days.
Man and machine in top form
Everything had to run as scheduled, nothing could be allowed to go wrong, in order to pull off the 19,000-kilometre tour through 21 countries in Africa and Europe in this spectacular time. The team had to be able to depend on one another and above all the technology of the car. “The VW Touareg was a good companion throughout this long, hard route”, enthuses Zietlow. And only he and his two companions know precisely all the things that the chassis and the engine have to withstand. Stony roads, blistering heat and dust, icy winds and torrential downfalls – the route provided countless challenges. Rainer Zietlow: “We were able to rely upon our engine in every situation and thanks to Glysantin® we always had the ideal engine temperature even in the face of constantly high demands in the searing heat of the Sahara – without even the slightest deviation.“
A tour of extremes once again completed with aplomb – congratulations!
A nine-day drive around the clock. One behind the wheel and the others have a rest, sleep, eat or write a new blog entry. Nine days without a bed and a shower, nine days that we tracked and watched with excitement and enthusiasm on the Internet. We congratulate Rainer Zietlow and his team on the outstanding achievement of the men and the car – an absolute endurance test for man and machine. We are happy that we were also able to be involved as a sponsor – the Cape to Cape 2.0 adventure could proceed perfectly and seamlessly with our premium coolant Glysantin® under the bonnet. Just as you would expect from a world record coolant – consistently reliable and safe!
What now, Mr Zietlow?
One question still remains for Rainer Zietlow: “Mr Zietlow, which record drive are you planning to embark on next?”
